The Process

Minimize

I would like to take this opportunity to outline the procedure I undertake in refacing your cabinets. I firmly believe that the process is the most important facet of a refacing job as is the craftsmanship.

  1. I remove all the old doors and moldings adjacent to walls, ceilings or soffits
  2. I fill any irregularities in the cabinets; repair any broken or loose framework
  3. Make all structural changes desired to update your cabinets; build additional cabinets, new drawers, cut out for dishwasher and so forth.
  4. Wipe down cabinets with a degreaser when needed and rough sand the old finish to prepare it for the contact adhesives that are used.
  5. Cut all refacing material and apply to the prepared cabinets. This involves the fine sanding and fitting of all edges, corners and seams. Install new moldings
  6. Finish papering off all the areas adjacent to the cabinets. Vacuum and tack cloth all new wood.
  7. Stain cabinets , (doors are stained and finished at my shop)
  8. Close off kitchen and install ventilation fan in window. Tack down cabinets again. Spray 2-3 coats of post-catalyzed lacquer, hand buff sanding and filling all pin holes between coats. Any glazing is done between coats.
  9. Remove paper, install hardware and drawer fronts. Final clean up.

Note: As was conveyed to you this approach does not use pre-finished materials, as indicated in steps 5-8. There by assuring that all the corners, edges and seams are properly sealed.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home and giving me the opportunity to inform you about cabinet refacing and about myself and my company. As a homeowner I understand and appreciate any uncertainty one has in working with someone you know little or nothing about. For the past 28 years I have been refacing kitchen cabinets and have developed a service that allows me to provide a hands-on approach. Being self-employed permits me to shoulder the responsibility to provide personal and professional excellence in workmanship and service.
My remodeling experience prior to self-employment entails over two years with All-Wood Cabinet Fronts. While at All-Wood I moved from the position of installer to field superintendent. I was hiring, training and over- seeing field installation of 3-4 installers while doing kitchens as well. Prior to my employment at All-Wood, I graduated from Creighton University with a degree in English and Secondary Education, Followed by Graduate school, (which I did not complete, ...short story… feel free to ask me about it), ensued then by a three year period split between managing a college bar and working for a non-profit institution.
To this day I enjoy performing work that demands high levels of experience, craftsmanship and a fine attention to detail (It must be the Swede in me). Aligned with this is the fact that I’ve mastered all aspects of the Refacing industry; preparation, ordering, installation, staining, glazing, and finishing and restructuring existing cabinets to accommodate any changes desired as well as building additional cabinets to match the rest. Along the way I’ve stumbled upon and picked up a few tricks to enhance your kitchens beauty and function.
Cabinet refacing accounts for 90% of the work I perform. I can truly claim that I specialize in it, striving to be aware of new innovative applications and focusing on refining the process while holding onto valid and time tested applications. The approach that I utilize assures you the finest hands on product available. All the refacing related work, including the staining and finishing, is performed by me. I provide plumbers, electricians, countertop fabricators, tile setters and flooring specialists when needed. This allows me to provide each homeowner the quality and personal service they deserve. Over the years I believe I have proven myself worthy of the task. It goes without saying that I will be polite, neat, and respectful of your property. If there is a problem or concern, it has happened, I will be there to make it right.
I charge a professional rate for my services. This is not to say that I am wickedly expensive because I’m not. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quick cheap job then Carlberg Cabinet Refacing is the wrong company for you. Attached is a list of references. Please feel free to phone as many as you like and make any inquiries you deem necessary.
Sincerely,
Christopher H. Carlberg
